FYI, TechMacro.com (mentioned in related posts) now shows only excerpts of feeds. However we offer 2 options for readers:

1. Go to original post (we always give BIG link back)
2. Read the post directly in the site (in an IFRAME)

I personally think full feed is the best thing in blogsphere and that is one of good reasons why your blog has grown up so far.

Evan, Shyftr may have changed its policy, but as you can see if you look at my feed on their site, all my posts are still displayed in full. Their policy "change", is, as Eric said, "smoke-and-mirrors". Here's the link to my feed on Shyftr:

http://www.shyftr.com/?openagg=4157&onlyagg=1

I should note that I've asked them via email to remove my feed, gave them 48 hours, and they haven't replied. I'm going to submit a DMCA take-down request either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Great insight here, Evan.

I'm still troubled by what Shyftr is doing even after its recent policy change. Apparently full feeds will still be accessible in a "read only" area and then what comments are added a different page will appear that removes full text. This seems to be a little smoke-and-mirrors-ish to me.

Thank you for this very thoughtful and interesting post. Also, thank you very much for addressing the issue of the implied license. Your thoughts closely mirrors that of other attorneys I've spoken with on it.

Still, until we get a solid ruling or two directly on the topic of RSS use, it seems some are going to take the implied license thing to an extreme.

Personally, I prefer to provide an actual one to my work, just to avoid any of those issues before they come up...

Hi there,

Thanks for the great post.

I'm glad a professional (lawyer) got the chance to weigh in on this discussion, which in some respects is an old one, but with services like Shyftr, become new again.

Cheers
